1776 Foundation Surpasses 80,000 Free Montana Constitutions Distributed Statewide

The 1776 Foundation announced today that it has now distributed more than 80,000 free copies of the Montana Constitution to parents, educators, concerned citizens, and elected officials across the state — marking a major milestone for the Billings-based nonprofit.

The Foundation’s Free Constitution Project was launched to expand civic understanding and increase access to Montana’s governing document. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a statewide initiative reaching communities large and small.

Jake Eaton, chairman of the 1776 Foundation’s board, praised the continued growth of the program.

“We launched this effort because we believe a strong understanding of our state constitution is essential to responsible citizenship,” Eaton said. “Seeing interest grow at this pace is truly remarkable. It shows that Montanans care deeply about their rights, their responsibilities, and the principles that guide our state.”

Copies of the Montana Constitution have been provided at no cost to classrooms, community groups, elected leaders, and individuals requesting them. The Foundation says demand has steadily increased as more residents seek to better understand state government, individual rights, and constitutional limits on power.

The 1776 Foundation encourages anyone interested in receiving a free copy to visit its website and request one.
